A humble rice farmer from a village in feudal Japan. Gonbe's life was peaceful until a plague of locusts devastated his village's rice crop--and on top of that, the local magistrate levied huge taxes on them! With bamboo spear and sickles in hand, Gonbe set off to overthrow the evil magistrate...

current status

Following the events of Ikki (specifically the retelling in Muramasa: Rebirth), Gonbe has overthrown the magistrate, been executed, gone to Hell, and was such an annoying do-gooder that Lord Enma kicked him back out. Thankfully, he got to return to the mortal world, and his village has known peace and prosperity ever since.

Gonbe doesn't talk much, but I feel close to him...especially when I garden or take care of plants... (which I should really be more diligent about...)
